My Henley Postgrad

Having completed my undergraduate degree in 2017, the reality dawned that I had to make another major life decision which would affect me for the next few years: where to undertake my postgraduate degree?

Having done much research and searching for programmes from various institutions and universities, I came across the Business Technology Consulting programme at Henley Business School. From browsing the modules and the curriculum structure, I knew I had come across a programme which was both unique and applicable to the real world—a mix of academics with real-world business experience, where could I go wrong.

From my first day at the University of Reading, I knew I had made the right decision. The academic staff were a pool of knowledge that I could tap in to and learn from. Where my lecturers and professors had not only academic teaching experience but also a strong business and commercial acumen. They were incredibly supportive and never turned away a question or query when posed. A mix of theory and practical classes helped apply what I had learnt into real business scenarios was something I had not experienced before in my previous education.

Furthermore, Business Technology Consulting encouraged both group and individual learning through projects and presentations, which helped me develop my confidence in public speaking and reinforce my teamwork and leadership skills. The fact that my programme had a cohort from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences helped me to achieve a perspective that I never thought I would be able to experience in such a short period of time.

Additionally, I was fortunate enough to be nominated as the class representative for Business Technology Consulting. I went on to represent the School of Informatics as a student representative, voicing student concerns and issues with the University of Reading’s board. Something I had never imagined I would have the confidence to do.

Alongside my studies, I was also partaking in the Reading Experience and Development (RED) Award, and I must express if you are reading this and are interested in applying for and attending the University of Reading enrol yourself onto the scheme. The RED award helped to bolster my employability skills as it involved partaking in several extracurricular activities and workshops.

The Whiteknights Campus had an excellent facility and staff on hand to assist in every one of my needs. There is always a lively atmosphere, and you could always find something to do on campus; whether it be events, food stalls, new societies recruiting or volunteering you will feel engrossed in the full student experience. Henley Business School also has its building on campus where you can find its dedicated resource centre and study area.

In summary I had a brilliant time studying at Henley Business School, learning vital soft and hard skills which I have been using throughout my career. The Business Technology Consulting programme is challenging but very engaging and staff are always on hand to ensure students are supported in order for them to succeed have the best possible future.
