Summer Fun In Reading

Staying in Reading over the summer? Our campus is a beautiful place to walk, relax and even picnic, but don’t be afraid to explore the town too! Here are some exciting events going on this summer!

If you’re a movie buff, Reading has lots of choices besides going to the cinema. Want to enjoy the nice weather? There are plenty of open-air cinema screenings on this summer, including the one run by Cult Screens that takes place in Caversham Court Gardens. August 15th they’re showing The Shape of Water, August 16th is Inception, and August 17th is The Greatest Showman, so there’s something for everyone!

Looking for some exercise? Prospect Park is hosting a fun run on the morning of August 12th. If you enjoy a light run with a colourful atmosphere, the Reading Fun Colour Rush is for you.

Want to channel your inner kid? (Or maybe you have some family to entertain too!) Reading has a Dinosaur Weekend for you to indulge your adventurer, with visits from a T-Rex, a Raptor, and more. Grab an ice cream and head to Wellington Country Park on August 4th and 5th for this child-friendly event.

Something you won’t see every day? A Dragon Boat Festival. It was so successful last year that they’re bringing it back for another round! August 19th is race day, where you can watch dragon boats hit the river and weave your way through local stalls while you wait for the winner to be announced.

Unless you’re new to the area, you’ve probably heard of Reading Festival. It’s a weekend-long music festival with big-name bands and the option to camp out too. Happening August 24th – August 26th, check out the set list and see if your favourite bands are going to be there!

Last but not least, if you’re looking for a little culture, you don’t have to travel far to find it. Reading is bringing a bit of Rio de Janeiro to town this summer with Rio Reading. This exciting event is happening August 24th, with the location to be announced soon.

Did we miss any events that you’re excited for? Let us know, and have fun this summer!
